FIRST PLACE:
Dancing with Destruction by Jill Schweiss
This chalk drawing depicts a woman who knows how to make the best of dark times. She thrives in the darkest hour. This is her message:
"You create from a strong connection to your core,
as so much around you is being destroyed.
You eat waves of destruction for breakfast
and by dinner, you've laid the foundation
for your empire."
This piece is based off of a screenshot from my friend Kay's dance film,

SECOND PLACE:
Mexican Hot Chocolate by Sonia Barron
Being that the theme was Chalking Beautiful Music and the festival's theme is chocolate tasting I got the idea to incorporate all those elements in my design. First of all, I love chocolate and I'm Mexican so that's how I came up with the subject. Mexican hot chocolate is a traditional hot drink. The Mexican chocolate tablets are added to hot milk to be dissolved. A "molinillo," a wooden hand beater, is used by rolling between the palms to stir and beat a thick froth in the hot chocolate before serving in clay mugs. A delicious accompaniment is a traditional Mexican sweet pastry called "Concha de Chocolate." The guitar is a classic Mexican instrument. My father used to play a classic Mexican love song called, "Sabor a Mi." It serves as a tribute to my father and a play on words since it translates to "My Taste."
